scope:
The measurement method described in this guideline serves the determination of the concentrations of the following compounds in ambient air and in indoor air:
- polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
- hexabromocyclododeca
ne (HBCD) as a sum of isomers - hexabromobenzene (HBB)
In addition to the above-mentioned compounds there are also other brominated aromatic flame retardants, whose analysis could take place in analogy to this regulation, but requires a preliminary method validation. Among others, hereto belong:
- pentabromobenzene
- pentabromoethylbenze
ne (PeBEB) - decabromodiphenyl ethane (DeBDPE)
- (2,4,6-tribromopheno
xy)-2,3-dibromopropa n - polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
- 1,2-bis[2,4,6-tribro
mophenoxy]ethane (BTBPE)
This guideline does not describe the analysis of tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBP-A) and similar phenolic compounds. Additional processing, cleaning and derivatisation steps are necessary for these compounds.
