scope:
Automated guided vehicle systems (AGVS) are internal, floor-supported material handling systems with automatically controlled vehicles whose main purpose is materials handling, but not the transport of passengers.
The machinery directive obligates the manufacturer of a machine and/or plant to conduct a risk assessment and, if necessary, to take measures to reduce the risk for the user. In doing so, the manufacturer will comply with the relevant national and international safety standards. Standards generally represent current state-of-the-art technology.
At any rate, the manufacturer remains responsible for the safety within the machine or plant until the time it is delivered and implemented, and responsibility passes to the user. From that point forward, the user will be responsible for ensuring, for example, that transportation routes are identified or that personal protective equipment is available.
Vehicle safety refers to the safety of automated guided transport vehicles, which is discussed in the "Guideline AGVS-Safety" [1].
System safety refers to the overall safety of the systems. It is covered by this standard.
