Introduction

The leafl et provides information about quality control during thermal spraying by means of checklists The leafl et is primarily intended to assist the spray coordinator and workshop personnel with quality assurance; it may also be useful when preparing for a quality audit.

Quality assurance covers all parameters which are part of the process, which are important to the quality of a sprayed coating, and covers the preconditions which are relevant to the production process. A quality management system which may already exist in the company is not affected by these quality-assurance measures.

The quality of the sprayed coating is ensured by maintaining a stable, controlled and monitored operating process. To prevent deviations in quality, all factors which are part of the spray process must be kept within appropriate limits by defi ning and monitoring them.

The following are to be monitored:

- Systems for thermal spraying

- Spray materials

- Auxiliary materials

- Process realisation: surface preparation, parameter settings, spraying, cooling, post-treatment

- Personnel qualifi cations

- Constructive basic conditions

- Testing of component and accompanying specimens.
