INTRODUCTION

While there is wide agreement on the terms used to describe flight control systems, the characteristics of those systems and the behaviour of the aeroplane, it is inevitable that with continuing development in this field new terms will come into use, and the meanings of others will change.

A great degree of standardisation has been achieved, and most concepts, terms and symbols used in Section 2 are defined in Reference 1. As far as possible this standard should be followed in interpreting the requirements and in assessing the results of flight tests to establish compliance. The purpose of this Leaflet is to explain those terms which may not be generally recognised, or may not conform exactly to standard usage.
