MODUK - DEF STAN 21-28: PART 1

Standard for Inter-System Communications Protocols Part 1: High Level Language for Message Construction

active, Most Current
Organization: MODUK
Publication Date: 15 September 2000
Status: active
Page Count: 48
scope:

NES 1024,1026, and 1028 cover the technical requirements for interfacing to current warship combat systems using the CSH or TWSH. For equipment that will interface to these systems the standards are Category 1, mandatory, but for systems and equipment relating only to new platforms the standards should be considered as Category 2.

This part of NES 1028 defines a formal language for the unambiguous specification of the structure and content of digital data messages. The language is general and is not based on any particular highway or interface specification. It is applicable to the specification of messages passing between systems and in particular to the formulation of message structures at the Presentation Layer (Layer 6) of the IS0 seven layer model for Open System Interconnection (OSI).

The language is the formal tool for the specification of messages carrying data between systems mounted on a single platform. NES 1028 Part 2 contains the protocols for the exchange of data and control information between components of such systems, Part 3 catalogues the standard message structures to be used and Part 4 details the rules and protocols for the passing of large blocks of data across digital highways.
