Introduction

One of the design objectives of the SSI project was for a reduction in wiring and cabling compared with a relay based signalling scheme. With the exception of trackside tail cables, the remaining lineside requirement is for power supply and Data Link cables. It is therefore important that cable design and installation standards are high if high overall long term system availability and reliability are to be achieved.

All cables should be permanently labelled at each end to identify the cable.
