scope:
This standard presents measures for the prevention and reduction of potential emissions from stored wood pellets and the resulting hazards at end users' pellet stores with a holding capacity of approx. 0,5 t to approx. 100 t.
It defines the requirements for the design and equipment of pellet stores and makes recommendations for pellet production and delivery.
The requirements and recommendations of this standard are based on the exclusive use of Quality Class A1, A2 and B wood pellets as per DIN EN ISO 17225-1 and -2.
This Standard addresses all persons installing and/or operating or inspecting pellet stores or wood pellet heating systems.
For employees having to work in storage rooms for prolonged times, additional occupational health and safety regulations apply, e.g. BGR/GUV-R 117-1, TRGS 900.
Applicable statutory regulations for storage rooms, in particular the building legislation, must be observed, regardless of the recommendations given in this standard.
The basic principles for the design, construction and operation of biomass-fuelled regenerative thermal energy systems with a rated thermal output of maximum 500 kW (e.g. wood pellet heating system) are described in the standard VDI 6012 Part 2.1.
Note: The general requirements for building services rooms including the pellet storage room are described in the standard series VDI 2050.
