Diese Norm gilt für Kontakteinsätze, die für Steckdosen nach DIN 89262 und DIN 89263, für Kupplungen nach DIN 89266 und für Stecker nach DIN 89267 bestimmt sind.

Sie sind für elektrische Anlagen auf Schiffen mit Betriebsspannungen bis AC/DC 250 V vorgesehen.

Die beiden Bauarten mit Bemessungsspannungen bis 150 V und bis 250 V ermöglichen die Anwendung von zwei Betriebsspannungssystemen auf einem Schiff.
