Purpose. This standard is used for the qualitative and quantitative determination of antimicrobial activity on automotive Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) plastics and other non-porous surfaces. Suppressing microbial infiltration and growth can be accomplished by incorporating an antimicrobial agent as an additive within plastics and other non-porous surfaces. This test procedure is a proficient way to evaluate antimicrobial activity and corresponding additive treatment efficacy.
Applicability. This standard is ideal, and limited to plastics and other non-porous surfaces utilized in HVAC components that do not require a visible cosmetic appearance on the material surface(s).
