INTRODUCTION

It has been a ssumed in the drafting of this International s tandard t hat the execution of i ts provisions is entrusted to appropriately qualified and experienced persons.

This standard recognizes the internationally accepted level of protection against hazards such as e lectrical, mechanical, thermal, fire and radiation o f appliances w hen operated a s in normal use taking i nto account the manufacturer's instructions. I t also covers abnormal situations that can be e xpected in p ractice and takes into account the way in w hich electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances.

This s tandard takes into a ccount t he r equirements of IEC 60364 a s far as possible s o that there is compatibility with the wiring rules when the appliance is connected to the supply mains. However, national wiring rules may differ.

If an appliance within t he s cope of t his s tandard also i ncorporates f unctions t hat a re c overed by another part 2 of I EC 60335, t he r elevant part 2 is applied to e ach function s eparately, as far as i s reasonable. If applicable, the influence of o ne function on t he o ther i s taken into account.

When a part 2 standard d oes not include additional r equirements to c over hazards d ealt with in Part 1, Part 1 applies.

NOTE 1 This means that the technical committees responsible for the part 2 standards have determined that it is not n ecessary to s pecify particular requirements for the appliance in question o ver and above the general requirements.

This s tandard i s a p roduct f amily standard dealing with t he safety of a ppliances and takes precedence over horizontal and generic standards covering the same subject.

NOTE 2 Horizontal a nd generic standards c overing a hazard a re not a pplicable s ince t hey have been t aken into consideration when developing the general and particular requirements for the IEC 60335 series of standards. For example, in the case o f temperature requirements for surfaces o n many appliances, generic standards, such a s ISO 13732-1 for hot surfaces, are not applicable in addition to Part 1 or part 2 standards.

An a ppliance that complies with the text of t his standard w ill not necessarily b e considered t o comply with t he s afety principles of t he s tandard if, when e xamined a nd t ested, it is found t o have other features which impair the level of safety covered by these requirements.

An appliance employing materials or having forms of construction differing from those detailed in t he r equirements of t his standard m ay be examined a nd t ested according to the intent of the requirements and, i f found to be substantially equivalent, m ay be considered to c omply with the standard.

The Essential Health and Safety Requirements of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC have also been taken into account.

Products within the scope of this standard may incorporate pressurized components for which the Pressure Equipment Directive, 2014/68/EU, applies:

Refrigerating systems having a pressure greater than 0,05 MPa are considered to be assemblies falling within the scope of the Pressure Equipment Directive, 2014/68/EU. However, according to Article 1, item 2 (f) of the Directive, equipment classified no higher than category I under Article 13 of the PED and covered by the Low Voltage Directive or Machinery Directive are excluded from its scope.

Compliance with this standard does not give a means of conformity with the essential requirements of the Pressure Equipment Directive for those appliances that fall within its scope.

Other requirements and other EU Directives may be applicable to the appliances falling within the scope of this standard
