Purpose and scope

This guideline documents and describes fl aws in welded joints of thermoplastic materials for the processes mentioned herein, with the aim of enabling a generally applicable assessment under consideration of a set of graduated quality requirements. This guideline is primarily intended to assist with visual assessment, supplemented by further tests. The characteristics of new and future plastics may diff er from the specifi cations in this guideline (e.g. bead shape). If materials with diff erent properties (e.g. MFR) are welded together, this must be taken into consideration when interpreting the results.

Application of the guideline and actions taken to ensure compliance may be defi ned by legal provisions, general codes of practice or supply agreements, for example.

The assessment of joints in accordance with this guideline may only be performed by an expert with the necessary experience, e.g. a specialist in plastics welding as per Guideline DVS 2213.
