This specification applies to rails of the following profiles (other than 95RBH (BS11), these are defined in EN-13674):

a) 54E1 'Flat-bottom'

b) 56E1 'Flat-bottom'

c) 54E1A1 'Flat-bottom'

d) 95RBH, as defined in BS 11 'Bullhead'

e) Forged Transition Rails (FTRs): 56E1 to 95RBH

f) Forged switch rails: 56E1 to 54E1A1

g) 33C1.

Note: 54E1 is not currently a preferred LU rail profile, but due to the minor differences when compared to 56E1, can be installed with authority from the appropriate delegated technical lead(s).

Purpose

The purpose of this specification is to outline the material characteristics, profiles for running rails and check rails, and requirements for rail used on London Underground (LU's) network infrastructure.
