Purpose.
This Test Procedure describes a test method to determine the fogging tendencies of all interior and air ventilation system materials. This method may also be used for other applications such as for fogging characteristics of foam or insulation materials used with automotive lenses.
Two alternative tests are specified with different methods of evaluating the degree of fogging.
Method A - Photometric Method.
This method evaluates the volatility of organic constituents by glossmeter measurements (Coding A).
Method B - Gravimetric Method.
This method determines the mass of fogging condensate on aluminum foil in mg by weighing foil before and after the fogging test (Coding B).
Different beaker volumes used by various fog test units may require a scaling factor to allow for the results to be comparable from one fog test unit to another. The scaling factors, based on three common manufacturers of fog equipment, are provided in Appendix A.
