Organization: JSA
Publication Date: 20 May 2011
Status: active
Page Count: 60
ICS Code (Measurement of volume, mass, density, viscosity): 17.060
scope:

This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the methods of measurement for the dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity, dynamic viscosity x density and apparent viscosity of liquid by using a capillary viscometer, falling ball viscometer, rotational viscometer and vibrating viscometer.

NOTE: The viscous properties of liquid are generally classified roughly into a Newtonian liquid and a non-Newtonian liquid as defined in clause 3. For the measurement of Newtonian liquids, when the conditions of measurement are satisfied in any method of measurement, the same dynamic viscosity, kinematic viscosity or dynamic viscosity x density determined by a single meaning of primary importance can be obtained. For the measurement of non-Newtonian liquid, the apparent viscosity differs corresponding to slip velocity, however the flow curve can be obtained by using the coaxial double cylinder type and cone-flat plate type viscometer.
