(AIR-5.0D) STATIC DISPLAY AND FLIGHT DEMONSTRATION OF NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND AIR VEHICLES

scope:
a. This instruction applies to:
(1) All air vehicles under the Aircraft Controlling Custody of NAVAIR to include aircraft, UAVs, lighter than air ships, drones and other airborne assets that are being developed, tested, remanufactured, modified, repaired, overhauled or any other situation that places an air vehicle under NAVAIR authority, including aircraft being procured under Navy contracts that have not been accepted by the Government.
(2) Navy aircraft and pre-accepted Navy aircraft in the custody of contractors and/or assigned to the Aircraft Reporting Custody of a Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) activity for which NAVAIR is designated the Aircraft Controlling Custodian (ACC) .
(3) Experimental or developmental air vehicle programs managed by Aviation Program Executive Officers (PEOs) and Direct Reporting Program Managers (DRPMs) .
b. This instruction does not apply to air vehicles leased to contractors for flight demonstration purposes for which the contractor has assumed ground and flight risk.
Purpose.
To issue amplifying policy, flight restrictions and identification of approval authority regarding the use of Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) air vehicles, aircraft, unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and drones in static displays, flyovers, and flight demonstrations. For the purpose of this instruction, the term "air vehicle" will apply to all aforementioned airborne assets unless specific delineation is required.
