The requirements of this standard apply to the stages of design, manufacture, installation, commissioning, maintenance and safe conditions of use, spatial requirements and environment. 

The term escalator also includes moving walk unless otherwise stated. 

This standard applies to Heavy Duty Metro type escalator and Moving Walk installations on the LU Network.

Purpose 

The purpose of this standard is to define the requirements for the provision and safe conditions of use of Heavy Duty Metro type escalators and moving walks, their spatial requirements and environment on the London Underground System. The requirements of LU Heavy Duty Escalators and Moving Walks can be found in LU Standard S1092.
