Scope and object
This standard applies, when required by the relevant product standard, to switchgear and controlgear hereinafter referred to as ²equipment² and intended to be connected to circuits, the rated voltage of which does not exceed 1 000 V a.c. or 1 500 V d.c.
It does not apply to low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies which are dealt with in IEC 60439.
NOTE - In certain clauses or subclauses of this standard, the equipment covered by this standard is also referred to as "device", to be consistent with the text of such clauses or subclauses.
The object of this standard is to state those general rules and requirements which are common to low-voltage equipment:
- definitions;
- characteristics;
- information supplied with the equipment;
- normal service, mounting and transport conditions;
- constructional and performance requirements;
- verification of characteristics and performance.
DV.1 D2 Additions to 1.1
DV.1.1 This equipment is intended for installation in accordance with the national installation codes for use in ordinary locations. See Annex DVB, Table DVB.3, Ref. No. 14.
DV.1.2 "IEC 60947-2: Part 2: Circuit-breakers² does not apply. They are covered in Annex DVB, Table DVB.3, Ref. No. 3.
DV.1.3 "IEC 60947-3: Part 3: Switches, disconnectors,
switch-disconnectors
DV.2 DR Addition of 1.1DV.2.1 and 1.1DV.2.2 to 1.1:
DV.2.1 In Mexico and the United States, with respect to the national installation codes, equipment operating at 600V and less is considered low-voltage equipment. In Canada, with respect to the national installation codes, equipment operating at more than 750V is considered high voltage equipment.
DV.2.2 Enclosed equipment intended for use as service equipment shall comply with the applicable requirements in this standard and with Annex DVB, Table DVB.3, Ref. No. 7. In Mexico, this requirement does not apply.
