This Standard provides the specifications of round open-top cans of two-piece and three-piece to be used as containers of foods (including beverage) (hereafter referred to as cans).

However, it does not apply to cans which are double seamed after having been filled with contents.

NOTE: The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

ISO 90-1 : 1997 Light gauge metal containers - Definitions and determina tion of dimensions and capacities - Part 1 : Open -top cans

ISO 1361 : 1997 Light-gauge metal containers - Round open-top cans - Internal diameters

ISO 10653 : 1993 Light-gauge metal containers - Round open-top cans - Cans defined by their nominal gross lidded capacities

ISO 10654 : 1993 Light-gauge metal containers - Round open-top cans - Cans for liquid products with added gas, defined by their nominal filling volumes (overall evaluation: MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
