The VDI 6022 Series of Standards applies to all rooms in buildings (see VDI 6022 Part 1, Section 3). This standard applies to air humidification by decentralised stand-alone devices, and to decorative water features (e.g. fountains, watercourses, water walls) having an impact on the indoor air humidity level.

Fields of application falling in the scope of this standard include, e.g.:

• industrial areas

• offices, banks, insurance companies

• shops, public venues

• hotels, hospitals, nursing homes

• residential spaces

• sports facilities

• public areas (e.g. schools, nurseries)

Devices which were originally conceived for private use and are used in places of work are also subject to this standard. These devices pose a particular hazard potential that may arise, e.g. due to the unfiltered introduction of microbiologically contaminated air or inadequate maintenance.
