scope:

Establishes a system of designation for acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene thermoplastic material, which may be used as the basis for specifications. This part of the standard is applicable to all styrene/acrylonitrile copolymers comprised of a continuous phase, consisting of copolymers of styrene (and/or an alkyl-substitued styrene) and acrylonitrile, and a dispersed elastomeric phase based on butadiene, with the continuous phase having more than 10 % (m/m) of acrylonitrile. It applies to materials ready for normal use, unmodified or modified by colourants, additives, fillers, etc.
