scope:
This standard applies to CMMs of any type and accuracy, with mechanical or optical probing. Given that some manual CMMs are also suitable for recording the vast number of measuring points required for form measurement, they are not generally excluded.
Limitations in the scope of application result from the capability of the CMM to probe an adequate number of points within an acceptable measuring time. For roundness measurement, the usual number of points per section is 3600 or 4000. Not all CMMs permit the measurement of so many points with an acceptable outlay. Form measurements on CMMs providing incomplete data acquisition do not fall within the scope of this standard, as the comparability of results is not guaranteed in these cases.
