This Defence Standard (Def Stan) 02-517 Part 4, covers the manufacture, supply and testing requirements of cables insulated with fluorinated materials by extrusion or taping for specialized applications in HM Surface Ships and Submarines.

These cables have been designed specifically to meet onerous operating conditions of high temperatures or fluid immersion experienced in particular specialized applications.

The voltage rating of the cables is as specified in the Tables of Dimensions contained in Annex C and the frequency of supply is up to and including 400 Hz.

Cables are required to withstand the conditions of reeving, temporary support and glanding into equipment and through bulkheads, that are accepted practices in the shipbuilding and ship refitting industry.
