A-POD (ATIS-Point of Deployment): An IPTV Separable Security Interface Specification

inactive
Organization: ATIS
Publication Date: 1 May 2009
Status: inactive
Page Count: 90
scope:

This ATIS-Point Of Deployment (A-POD) Card, an IPTV Separable Security Implementation specification, is an extension to the CableCARD™ standards to support IP while being agnostic to layer-1 and layer-2 transports. The A-POD specification is not the only possible implementation of a Separable Security Element (SSE) within ATIS IIF standards, or for IPTV in general. This document is being published as a trial-use standard for a period of 18 months from July 28, 2009.

The intent of this specification is to be backwards-compatible with existing Uni-Directional Cable Receivers (UDCR) and Consumer Electronic (CE) devices. The time restraint and requirement for backwards-compatibility have limited the technological choices selected in this specification.

♦ Sections 1 through 4 include the general requirements for the A-POD-Host interface, A-POD Card, and A-POD Host Device (APHD).

Appendix A: A-POD Interface Specification.

This section duplicates the table of contents as the CableCARD™ Interface 2.0 Specification [CCIF2.0]. This section includes the additions and deletions as required for the A-POD Interface Specification.

Appendix B: A-POD Copy Protection Specification.

This section duplicates the table of contents as the CableCARD™ Copy Protection 2.0 Specification [CCCP2.0]. This section includes the additions and deletions as required for the A-POD Copy Protection Specification.

Appendix C: ATIS Host Device Core Functional Requirements.

This section duplicates the table of contents as the OpenCable Host Device 2.1 Core Functional Requirements [OCHD2.1]. This section includes the additions and deletions as required for the ATIS Host Device Core Functional Requirements.

Purpose

The A-POD Card will extend the existing Host-POD Interface to provide for IP flows that are agnostic to the network technology of the service/network provider and support both control and video-bearer traffic over IP. The A-POD Card solution provides the consumer the freedom of choice with regard to what equipment they wish to lawfully attach to the provider's network.
