OBJECTIVES
This Secure Download and Messaging Interoperability Specification meets the following objectives:
1. Focus on interoperability issues only.
2. Provide a method to support the secure installation of the downloaded Digital Rights Management (DRM) operating code to the IPTV Receiving Device.
3. Provide a method to support the secure provisioning and updates to the parameters (e.g., configuration) of IPTV Devices.
4. Define a secure environment within IPTV Devices to support secure boot-loading and secure downloads and updates of middleware and applications for IPTV Devices.
5. Define security profiles for the algorithms and methods specified for interoperable use.
6. Define a method to securely authenticate messages (e.g., address requirements for secure Emergency Alert System [EAS] messages).
7. Specify a method to provide confidentiality for downloads and messages for IPTV Devices.
8. Securely manage encryption keys used to provide confidentiality for downloads and messages.
9. Support independent encryption keys for individual downloads and messages.
10. Support encryption methods for unicast and multicast environments.
11. Provide a method to signal the use of alternative key management methods and alternative encryption algorithms.
The discovery of and access to a download management server, as well as the security of these functions, are out of the scope of this document. These functions are addressed in ATIS-0800017 [8] and ATIS-0800034 [9].
NOTE - This document does not address the security of service content (e.g., video and audio).
