This standard applies to insulation work on industrial installations. These comprise production and distribution installations in industry and in technical building equipment, e.g. appliances, vessels, columns, tanks, steam generators, pipe systems, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and hot and cold water installations.

Where fire protection requirements exist, the appropriate standards (see clause 2) or building inspectorate approvals shall be heeded.

This standard does not apply to insulation work on the building envelope, internal partitions and false ceilings, or to marine and automobile construction or the controlled area of nuclear power plants.
