Objectives

This offshore standard provides principles, technical requirements and guidance for design, manufacturing and installation of electrical installations on mobile offshore units and floating offshore installations.

The requirements of this standard are in compliance with relevant parts of SOLAS Ch.II-1 and the IMO MODU Code.

SOLAS references are as quoted in MODU Code 1989 and fulfil class requirements. Note that for compliance with flag state requirements, later amendments may be applicable.

The standard has been written for general world-wide application. Governmental regulations may include requirements in excess of the provisions by this standard depending on the size, type, location and intended service of the offshore unit/installation.

The objectives of this standard are to:

- provide an internationally acceptable standard of safety by defining minimum requirements for offshore electrical installations

- serve as a contractual reference document between suppliers and purchasers

- serve as a guideline for designers, suppliers, purchasers and regulators

- specify procedures and requirements for offshore units or installations subject to DNV Certification and Classification.
