Geometrical Product Specifications (GPS) - Acceptance and reverification tests for coordinate measuring machines (CMM) - Part 5: CMMs using single and multiple stylus contacting probing systems (ISO/FDIS 10360-5:2010)

Status: inactive
Page Count: 44
ICS Code (Measuring instruments): 17.040.30
scope:

This part of ISO 10360 specifies acceptance and periodic reverification tests of CMM performance with contacting probing systems and is only applicable to CMMs using: . any type of contact-probing system . discrete point probing mode . spherical and hemispherical styli It complements ISO 10360-7 which is the module for CMMs with video probing systems, and ISO 10360-2 which is universal, i.e. not probe type specific. NOTE It is the CMM probing performance which is specified, due to the impracticality of isolating the performance of the probing system from that of the CMM, even on a small artefact such as a test sphere. When relevant, this part of ISO 10360 also applies to: . multiple-stylus probing systems with fixed multiple-styli attached to a single probe (e.g. "star" stylus) . multiple-probing systems such as those with a stylus for each of their probes, . systems with articulating probing NOTE 1 If supplied with the CMM, articulating systems are covered provided they are capable of being prequalified, i.e. the repeatability of the articulation system is sufficient so that a qualification is not required after each articulation. In the case of non-repeatable systems, a similar test can be devised for articulation changes. . stylus and probe changing systems. NOTE 2 If supplied with the CMM, stylus and probe changing systems are covered provided they are capable of being prequalified, i.e. the repeatability of the changer system is sufficient so that a qualification is not required after each change. For systems using changers other than stylus or probe changers, generally similar test procedures can be used. In the case of non-repeatable systems, a similar test can be devised for changes of stylus or probing system configurations. . manual (non-driven) CMMs This part of ISO 10360 is not applicable to non-contact probing systems, which require different testing procedures. NOTE 3 The primary objective is to determine the practical performance of the complete CMM and probing system. The tests are therefore designed to find the measuring errors which are likely to occur when such a combined system is used on real workpieces, e.g. errors generated by the interaction between large probe tip offsets and uncorrected CMM rotation errors. The errors found here differ from those found in the EL tests in ISO 10360-2, Clause 5.5, because with multiple styli the nett CMM travel may be very different from the measured length. See Annex C for more information. The terms "Multi-stylus Size Error", etc., should strictly be "Combined CMM and Multiple Stylus Probing System Size Error", etc., but the wording has been truncated to the minimum which avoids ambiguity, for convenience. However, If it is desired to isolate the probing system performance as far as is practical, the influence of the CMM may be minimised. See Annex C for more information.
