FOREWORD

(a) This specification was prepared by the API Committee on the Standardization of Belting for Oil Country Purposes.

(b) This specification covers, among other items, the tensile strength, the elongation, general construction, and definite testing methods for seven classes of flat belting. 

c) This specification also includes dimensional stipulations on V-belts, with recommendations on power applications, together with dimensions on grooves of V-belt sheaves.

(d) It is urged that this specification be used in the purchase of belting and that adequate service records be maintained on such belting, in order that additional information may be obtained which can be utilized in case further revision or refinement of the specification is found advisable.
