scope:
This business process applies to:
a) culverts;
b) footbridges;
c) overline bridges;
d) underline bridges;
e) retaining walls;
f) Coastal, Estuarine and River Defences (CERDs) except those purely subject to wave action from the sea.
It describes these aspects of scour risk management:
a) identifying structures at risk;
b) assessing scour risk which includes:
1) identification of structural components at risk;
2) data collection of structure and watercourse properties;
3) site inspection of location;
4) categorisation of risk at structure.
c) recording the risk;
d) initiating actions to manage scour risk;
e) recording the actions taken;
f) cyclical review of the scour risk.
Purpose
This business process describes the procedures for safeguarding Network Rail structures from the risk of scour.
It manages the threat of scour, which can lead to functional failure of a structure.
