General Interior Features
This Guidance applies to the interiors of London Underground rolling stock occupied by passengers or staff, except for rail mounted maintenance machines and replaces G-185 A1. There were no technical changes. However, clarification has been provided around references which have since been superseded.
Purpose
The purpose of this Guidance Document is to define guidance on measures which promote safer London Underground rolling stock interior environments for passengers, train staff and personnel under normal working conditions, and a higher level of protection under collision conditions. Enhanced interior crashworthiness increases the survivability of passengers, train staff and personnel under these conditions and minimises those injuries that may preclude their subsequent escape.
Guidance is also given to encourage design of London Underground rolling stock interiors that provide passengers, train staff and personnel adequate opportunity to evacuate and escape from a vehicle in the event of an emergency.
