This Standard specifies general matters such as terms, symbols, classification and performances of laser diodes for recording and playback used as the light source (excluding those accommodated in electronic circuit or those accommodated in optical element ; hereafter referred to as "laser diodes").

NOTE: The International Standards corresponding to this Standard and the symbol of degree of correspondence are as follows.

IEC 60747-5-4 : 2006 Semiconductor devices-Discrete devices-Part 5-4 : Optoelectronic devices-Semiconductor lasers

IEC 60747-5-2 : 1997 Discrete semiconductor devices and integrated circuits-Part 5-2 : Optoelectronic devices-Essential ratings and characteristics and Amendment 1 : 2002 (Overall evaluation: MOD)

In addition, symbols which denote the degree of correspondence in the contents between the relevant International Standards and JIS are IDT (identical), MOD (modified), and NEQ (not equivalent) according to ISO/IEC Guide 21-1.
