This specification applies to protective treatment for all new and existing bridges and structures owned by Railtrack and to all persons responsible for their upkeep.
This specification supersedes the June 1981 issue of the BR Specification No. 70 and incorporates specific items from the BR Specifications Nos. 56 and 62. It is an interim document pending a total review of the requirements and specification of protective treatment for civil engineering.
This specification covers materials intended for airless spray, brush or roller application required for use as priming, undercoating and finish coats for bridges and structures, together with sealants and ancillary materials. It also covers materials for the maintenance painting of weathered, galvanized or painted surfaces.
PURPOSE
This specification gives details of the paints available for providing protective treatment to new and existing civil engineering structures, and shall be read in conjunction with the relevant Section of the Model Clauses for specifying Civil Engineering Works and the Railtrack Line Code of Practice RT/CE/C002 Reapplication of Protective Treatment to Bridges and Structures.
