This Standard applies to lifts that are used as a Primary Means of Vertical Transportation in a LU station. They shall be referred to as PMVT lifts.
Lifts that are used as a Secondary Means of Transportation in a LU station shall be referred to as SMVT lifts. SMVT lifts are not covered by this Standard: refer to LU standard 1-095.
This standard applies to the design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and safe use of all PMVT lifts. This includes managed evacuation lifts and the modernisation of existing PMVT lift installations.
This Standard does not apply to inclined lifts or vertical lifting platforms.
This Standard does not apply to the stages of design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and safe use of PMVT lifts in non-operational areas.
Purpose
The purpose of this Standard is to define the requirements for all PMVT lifts in LU stations within operational areas.
Note: Section 3 of this Standard is structured to align with BS EN 81-1 to assist reading and understanding.
