This procedure applies to Network Rail Operations staff and includes those that undertake safety critical work and who have responsibility for the rostering and / or management of staff who undertake safety critical work.

This procedure details the arrangements for reducing the risk of fatigue and managing fatigue along with working hours in accordance with the Rail and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 (Regulation 25), and NR/L2/ERG/003 specifically:

a) designing and risk assessing working patterns;

b) working time limits and managing exceedances of working time limits; and

c) monitoring and reviewing working patterns.

PURPOSE

The purpose of this procedure is to reduce the risk of fatigue related incidents and ill health within Network Rail Operations to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).
