Purpose:

This manual is composed of several volumes, each containing its own purpose. In accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5135.02, DoDD 5134.12, and DoD Instruction (DoDI) 4140.01:

• This manual:

o Implements policy, assigns responsibilities, and provides procedures for DoD materiel managers and others who work within or with the DoD supply system.

o Establishes standard terminology for use in DoD supply chain materiel management.

• This volume:

o Describes procedures for the DoD supply chain materiel management processes dealing with sourcing and acquiring materiel.

o Establishes the DoD Integrated Materiel Management Committee (IMMC).
