Purpose:
This manual is composed of several volumes, each containing its own purpose. In accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5134.12, the July 13, 2018 Deputy Secretary of Defense Memorandum, and DoD Instruction (DoDI) 4140.01:
• This manual:
o Implements policy, assign responsibilities, and provide procedures for DoD materiel managers and others who work within or with the DoD supply system.
o Establishes standard terminology for use in DoD supply chain materiel management.
• This volume:
o Describes procedures for the DoD supply chain materiel management processes dealing with sourcing and acquiring materiel.
o Establishes the DoD Integrated Materiel Management Committee (IMMC).
