The standard aims to identify a suggested minimum level of knowledge and skills for remote control operators related to navigation, machinery, communication and cargo.
Specific details related to all ship and remote control centre-specific arrangements and systems cannot be captured in a standard of a generic nature, however it aims to provide guidance for establishing a competence foundation.
The competencies listed in this standard will be amended frequently to accommodate new competencies evolving together with technological and organizational changes to the operation of autonomous, remotely operated and remotely supported ships.
