The requirements of this Handbook apply to all track welding activities being carried out on British Railways owned tracks.
Purpose
This Handbook defines the standards for the carrying out of track welding. It details the procedures that are to be used when carrying out alumino-thermic welding of rail joints, maintenance and repair welding of plain rails and crossings, alumino-thermic welding and electric pin brazing of bond attachments. It does not cover the flash welding of rail joints.
