This specification applies throughout Network Rail and to contractors and suppliers working on Network Rail infrastructure.

NOTE: The requirements identified in 4.1.1 to 4.1.3 are minimum requirements only. Where the Construction Design and Management Regulations apply to a project then the Principal Contractor may as part of his site rules set additional PPE requirements.

This standard does not apply to emergency services personnel, British Transport Police, Her Majesty's Railway Inspectorate, Rail Accident Investigation Branch, or to employees or contractors of transport undertakings (other than those working on contract to Network Rail).

Purpose

This standard defines the minimum requirements for personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear to be worn when working on Network Rail infrastructure.
