scope:
This instruction applies to all persons engaged in the maintenance of antenna systems and radiating cable systems used on Network Rail radio communications equipment except that provided under the GSM-R project. Where legacy radio antenna(s) have been relocated onto a GSM-R mast then only tasks A11 to A15 of Service A denoted in appendix A need be undertaken on the legacy radio equipment.
The maintenance requirements for earthing system associated with masts is detailed in NR/L2/TEL/30074 Maintenance of Telecoms Earths and Screening Systems.
Purpose
This instruction defines the maintenance requirements for antenna and feeders systems in use on Network Rail infrastructure.
The purpose of maintaining and testing these systems is to decrease the incidence of failures through deterioration and to identify potential failures before they become service affecting and to identify any problems with Fall Arrest systems or structural integrity of towers that may present a hazard to staff required to climb towers for faulting and planned maintenance purposes.
