This specification applies to material requirements for longitudinal bearers for Open or Sub-surface sections in the following applications:

a) bridges

b) over pipe crossings

c) around catchpits.

This technical specification applies to you if you are working within TfL, including LU staff, Transport for London (TfL) engineering staff and all suppliers involved in the design, manufacture, supply, or installation of longitudinal timbers.

This technical specification does not cover the Inspection of Longitudinal Bridges which is covered in S1158 and PR0114, nor does it give maintenance minimum actions if defects conditions are identified, these are covered in S1158 attachment 5.

Purpose

The purpose of this specification is to specify the material requirements for Longitudinal Bridge bearers and components that are to be used on the London Underground (LU) network.
