Maintenance Briefing Process

inactive
Organization: NR
Publication Date: 1 June 2008
Status: inactive
Page Count: 14
scope:

This procedure specifies the means by which general, safety and technical information is disseminated within Infrastructure Maintenance and to Infrastructure Maintenance contractors. It specifies the responsibilities of Directors, Managers and Section Managers etc to enable consistent and appropriate staff briefing within specific timescales.

It is not intended to be used for the management of day-to-day correspondence or other ad-hoc documents.

The method of cascade briefing has been developed to minimise the time spent briefing and to limit the briefing content to that which is relevant for the specific audience.

Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to establish the communication process for the cascade briefing of general, safety and technical information which impact on processes and working practices of staff employed in Network Rail's Infrastructure Maintenance Organisation and supports Company Standard, Network Rail standards management, NR/L2/STP/001.

Essentially the process consists of two parts:-

• Awareness briefs (general company and safety information, Territory, Area and Local Issues)

• Technical/Specialist briefs (Network Rail Standards, Specifications, Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) and Safety Controls including the Rule Book.)

In both cascade processes the information is targeted to provide staff with the information they require based on their location, role and competence.

This will reduce the "information overload" to staff, shorten the time required for briefing and minimise the downtime from their normal duties
