scope:
This specification covers the requirements for the preparation of flight manuals for all types of aircraft. Adherence to this specification is essential to assure maximum standardization of the flight manual program; however, the requirements that are not applicable to a specific aircraft shall not be included in the manuals for that aircraft. Further, items that are applicable to a specific aircraft but are not specified herein shall be included in the manual unless the item is not applicable to the particular aircraft or unless a deviation has been granted by the procuring activity (see 6.3).
The manuals shall be of the following types and classes, as specified (see 6.2).
Type I - Seven-section manual (see 3.3)
Type II - Nine-section manual (see 3.3)
Type III - Special purpose manual (see 3.7)
Class 1 - Formal manual (see 3.8.1)
Class 2 - Preliminary manual (see 3.8.2)
Class 3 - Utility manual (see 3.8.3)
Class 4 - Partial manual (see 3.8.4)
The requirements of MIL-M-7298 shall apply for the review and acceptance of commercial flight manuals. Beneficial comments (recommendations, additions, deletions) and any pertinent data which may be of use in improving this document should be addressed to: ASD/ENES, Wright-Patterson AFB OH 45433-6503 by using the self-addressed Standardization Document Improvement Proposal (DD Form 1426) appearing at the end of this document or by letter.
intended Use:
This specification covers flight manuals that are intended to provide instruction for flight crews in the operation of aircraft and their onboard systems.
