scope:
This standard deals with earthwork such as the breaking, loading, removal, placing and compaction of soil and rock.
It also covers
- work under water near the bank or shore and in groundwater if performed in connection with earthwork on land above water level,
- the processing of soil or rock material for civil engineering purposes,
- earthwork using recycled materials, industrial by-products and other materials, and earthwork carried out in conjunction with
- underground drainage (cf. DIN 18306)
- the laying of pressure pipework outside buildings (cf. DIN 18307),
- land drainage and infiltration management work (cf. DIN 18308),
- underground cable laying operations (cf. DIN 18322).
This standard does not cover earthwork associated with
- drilling operations (cf. DIN 18301),
- dredging work (cf. DIN 18311),
- underground construction work (cf. DIN 18312),
- diaphragm walling (cf. DIN 18313),
- trenchless pipelaying (cf. DIN 18319),
- or landscape work (cf. DIN 18320).
DIN 18299 clauses 1 to 5 shall also apply. In cases where the specifications of DIN 18299 contradict the present standard, the latter shall take precedence.
