This standard is applicable for measurement of fiber optic light guide cables with glass for image and data transmission (distances up to 100 m) as well as for transmission of light and optical radiation in the near infrared and ultraviolet spectral range. The application of this standard is limited to light guide cables with fiber bundles containing at least 50 fibers.

The standard is not applicable for fiber optic components and products intended for telecommunication and data transmission over distances > 100 m.

The purpose of this standard is to define a uniform method for determining tensile load capacity of fiber optic cables.
