scope:
This standard applies to the outdoor portions of factory made commercial and industrial equipment, including heat pumps, used for refrigerating or air-conditioning of spaces.
Exclusions. This standard does not apply to the outdoor portions of unitary air-conditioning or heat pump equipment which fall within the scope of ARI Standard 270 (cooling capacity ratings of less than 135,000 Btuh [40 kW]).
Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to establish methods of sound rating the outdoor portions of factory-made commercial and industrial air-conditioning and refrigerating equipment.
This standard utilizes a single number rating system based on the determination of A-weighted sound power.
Octave band sound power levels are provided, as an option, for engineering purposes.
Review and Amendment. This standard is subject to review and amendment as the art of the industry advances.
