GENERAL SPECIFICATION FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE, HIGH DENSITY, TWO PIECE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD CONNECTOR

inactive
Organization: DLA
Publication Date: 5 October 1989
Status: inactive
Page Count: 40
scope:

This drawing outlines the general requirements for families of high density / high performance two piece electrical connectors, intended for printed circuit board attachment and connection, utilizing through hole (solder and compliant pin), surface mount, or wire harness termination techinques. The connectors may include low level signal logic type contacts, power contacts, shielded contacts, and optical termini. These connectors may also offer severe operating environment performance capability, such as protective hoods, contact sealing, interfacial seals, electrostatic shielding or other advanced capabilities.

Connectors conforming to this general requirements drawing must be capable of operating in the following environments:

- temperature from −65°C to +125°C with temperature cycling.

- altitudes from sea level to 70,000 ft.

- moisture conditions up to 100% relative humidity.

- dust and fine sand atmosphere.

- salt laden atmosphere.

- vibration conditions to 20 G's.

- shock conditions up to (100) G's.

The complete part number shall be as specified on the item requirements drawing and constructed using the following format, (also see 1.2.6):

Insulators shall be fabricated utilizing one of the following plastic materials:

A - Thermoplastic, type GST-40F per MIL-M-24519.

B - Thermosetting Plastic, type GDI-30F per MIL-M-14.

C - Thermoplastic, type GLCP-30F per MIL-M-24519.

Connectors shall be terminated using the following termination techniques:

A - Thru hole solder termination.

B - Compliant pin termination.

C - Surface mount solder termination.

D - Solder cup / eyelet termination.

E - Attached wire harness termination.

F - Wire wrap termination.

The part number shall include 5 digits to identify the total number of contacts. The first three digits will identify the number of signal contacts, and the following two digits identifying the number of special contacts (shielded, fiber optic, etc...).

The part number will utilize a single character (A thru Z) to identify the termination type. Each individual requirements drawing will provide a chart which will identify available termination type and an associated code letter to include in the part number.

Contact sealing will be identified in the last character position of the part number as following:

S - Connectors are sealed to prevent entry of cleaning fluids, or conformal coatings into the contact area from the termination side of the connector block.

N - No sealing is provided.

Ancillary hardware shall be specified in the following format:

intended Use:

These connectors are designed for printed wiring board to printed wiring board or printed wiring board to cable interconnections of miniaturized equipment subassemblies with low power... View More
