MODUK - DEF STAN 81-24
Identification Marking of Transportable Containers, Compressed Gas
Organization: | MODUK |
Publication Date: | 19 March 2004 |
Status: | inactive |
Page Count: | 66 |
scope:
This standard aims to: facilitate the purchase of new transportable gas containers; assist in the maintenance and refurbishment of the MOD's existing stock of transportable gas containers; act as the UK implementing document for a number of NATO Cross-Servicing agreements; and to help ensure the MOD's transportable gas containers comply with the requirements of UK, European and International legislation.
It specifies requirements for the identification marking and colour coding of transportable gas containers owned and hired by the MOD for the storage, transport and use applications of compressed permanent, liquefiable and dissolved gases. It is divided into separate sections covering General Requirements for all applications, Ground containers, Airborne containers, Diving containers and Medical containers. This division reflects the different operational requirements that each type of container may be exposed to.
It does not apply to containers used in portable fire extinguishers, as these are covered by European Standards. It does not apply to special to type 0.33 litre, 0.60 litre and 2.40 litre HPPA containers as these are covered by Def Stan 81-91.
It does not apply to US DOT standard containers.
The identification marking of self-filled personal use containers which may contain various mixtures of breathing gases is not included in this standard but should be in accordance with its general principles as far as possible
