PURPOSE
The purpose of this Marshall Work Instruction (MWI) is to establish a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Program at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC). It provides supervisors with the requirements to assist them in determining the need for PPE, the selection of PPE, and the training requirements in the use of PPE.
APPLICABILITY
This MWI shall apply to all MSFC work operations performed on and off the Center, and to employees performing those operations. Instructions provided in this MWI apply to MSFC civil service employees involved in any MSFC operation where identified hazards cannot be eliminated through engineering or procedure controls. PPE is required for MSFC operations where workplace hazards cannot be effectively eliminated by work practice, engineering controls, and/or administrative controls. Contractors can elect to use this instruction or develop their own, but a PPE program is required to be addressed in their safety and health program documents.
