scope:
This Standard primarily specifies the requirements for the packaging of small and robust, electrical, electronic or electro-mechanical assemblies.
This includes items noted as; 'Relays, Relay Controllers and Solenoids, Electrical' and 'Precision Instrument, rotating servo-components'; Frame sizes 08 to 23 and 37.5, 50 and 75 mm Synchro units classified as Magslips. Packaging to Military Levels P, N and J (equivalent to NATO Levels 4, 3 and 2 respectively). The Primary Packaged Quantities (PPQ) are single items or multiple sets up to and including 2 kg mass. Over 2 kg mass a SPIS design should be raised in accordance with Defence Standard 81-41.
NOTE: Items were previously covered by Def Stan 81-77, Def Stan 81-33 and 81-38 (now withdrawn), also by Def Stan 59-27, 61-14 (obsolescent).
This standard covers only those assemblies with a minimum fragility factor of 100 gn
This standard does not apply to the packaging of electrostatic discharge sensitive devices.
